Acinetobacter spp.: An Emerging Pathogen in Neonatal Septicaemia

ثبت نشده
چکیده

DISCUSSION Septicaemia remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the newborns, more so in the developing countries. In India, according to the National Neonatal Perinatal Database (NNPD) 2000, the incidence of neonatal septicaemia has been reported to be 24/1000 live births. Along with other organisms like E.coli ,Klebsiella spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas spp. and Salmonella spp., Acinetobacter spp. are gaining importance as a potential pathogen in neonatal septicaemia because of its frequent isolation and multidrug resistance [1]. The blood samples from 50 suspected neonatal septicaemia cases were cultured from April 2010 to September 2010 for the isolation of aerobic bacteria. The organisms were identified by conventional methods and antimicrobial testing was done according to Kirby Bauer’s method [2].

Acinetobacter spp. - an emerging pathogen in neonatal septicemia in Amritsar.

Septicaemia remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the newborns in the developing countries. According to National Neonatal Perinatal Database (2000) in India, the incidence of neonatal septicemia is 24/1000 live births. Changing bacterial flora and emergence of resistant strains further aggravate the problem. Acinetobacter spp. have emerged as important nosocomial pathogens....

Isolation and phylogenic analysis of emerging new antibiotic resistant bacteria, Acinetobacter lwoffii, associated with mortality in farmed rainbow trout

Whereas it is well documented that the genus Acinetobacter is associated with antibiotic resistant bacteria and human clinical infections, there are very few studies to date that report it as an emerging new pathogen for fish. In the present study, Acinetobacter lwoffii was isolated from diseased rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) from Iranian farms, in the Khuzestan Province by both biochemic...

Human Listeriosis: An Update

Listeriosis in human is clinically characterized as perinatal listeriosis, neonatal listeriosis and adult listeriosis. Listeria spp are an established pathogen in animals, and human infections are usually seen following ingestion of contaminated food (processed food). Human infections of Listeria spp initially present with gastrointestinal symptoms. Meningitis, septicaemia, brain abscess and pr...

Severe Community-Acquired Bloodstream Infection with Acinetobacter ursingii in Person who Injects Drugs

We report a community-acquired bloodstream infection with Acinteobacter ursingii in an HIV-negative woman who injected drugs. The infection was successfully treated with meropenem. Species identification was performed by using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Improved identification of Acinetobacter spp. by using this method will help identify clinic...
